Greetings from sunny south Florida! My name is Shannon Webb. I live down here with my husband and 3 beautiful children. I was raised in the metro Detroit area of Michigan. I met my pilot husband there in 2002 and moved from Michigan to Fort Worth Texas, then down to Copperas Cove Texas to finally end up here in 2008. We love Florida and hope to be here for a very long time.
My mother raised, showed, bred, and agility trained Airedale Terriers in the 1980's and early 1990's. Back then even the Airedale Terrier was a respected breed and only the best Airedales were bred. Airedale Terrier rescues saved and found a forever home for any Airedale Terrier who ended up in a shelter or pound. We shipped puppies all over the United States, even though the adoptive parents never laid eye on their puppy until they picked them up at the airport. Two puppies stand out in my memory, the one we nicknamed Tex because he was shipped to Texas for wild boar hunting and Baron, he went to Montana for bear hunting. I was always sad to see the puppies leave, even as a child I wanted to keep them all.
The first dog I owned as an adult was a rat terrier named Sargent. Sargent came to live with me in 1995 and I loved him to pieces. He was with me until he passed in 2006, I still miss him terribly. In 2002 a person I knew offered me a husky puppy. Up until then I had only been around or owned terriers so I was not sure what to expect from a different breed. Kodiak was a cute, fuzzy little 6 week old puppy and I have to admit I had no idea what was in store for me. If you have never owned a husky, they are stubborn and sometimes very hard to house break. Well I got one that was extremely hard to house break, but he got it eventually (after ruining carpet in a few rooms of my house). I never expected to love a dog as much as I love Sarjent but just as your heart has room for all your children, it also has room for all your dogs. I cannot imagine my life without Kodiak in it and it saddens me to see him slow. Now Kodiak's favorite place is in his room, laying on his huge bed. He no longer loves playing outside, he much prefers the central air, even on cool breezy days. In 2007 we saved a toy rat terrier from a horrible breeder in Texas, we named him Kirby Lee. Little Kirby was too weak to play because the worms that filled his little belly were consuming any food he was able to find. He had mange (non contagious form) and our vet said he was shocked this little 6 month old puppy was still alive. Even in this weak state Kirby would roll on his back and wag his little tail whenever my children came near him, showing me that he had a huge heart. It took several months of daily doses of ivamec and a high protein diet but Kirby made a full, wonderful recovery. He ended up being a very handsome. muscular little boy.
With Scott traveling for work, my dogs are my security. Seeing Kodiak entering his senior years, I started looking at husky breeders in my area and stumbled upon the Alaskan Klee Kai. I remember the night I found them, I called my husband into the room yelling "sweetheart you have to see this". They are great little watch dogs, they bark when someone is near my home. I am happy to report that I found them much easier to house break than my husky. They have many of the same traits as Kodiak, just in a smaller more compact body. I am so happy with this little breed!
